What is an Intranet

  • An Intranet is a private network that is under the control of a single administrative domain, with its own policies and protocols.
  • Even if the intranet is spread across different geographical locations, they are under the control of a single ISP.
  • Examples of Intranet
    • A network of an organization connecting employees with shared internal resources (e.g. Internal web sites, company wide broadcast). It is also called an enterprise network.
    • A university/campus network connecting all the computers within the university
